Day 36

My 4th X-ray is today. I am able to drive with my unbroken arm and have no pain when I move around. My grip on my broken arm is improving and I'm less scared when I'm moving around. Ive noticed I've been bumping my arm more and more recently. Luckily there's been no pain associated with my clumsiness. I'm noticing my bicep and tricep more. And seems like they're trying to find they're place around my humerus. I remember accidentally flexing by bicep at Day 15 and noticing a shock and pain (8/10) around the region of the break. Now I can flex and feel both muscles but there's no pain. Mind you I only flex for a half second of so but I know I'm improving on a daily basis.  Leading into my 4th x-ray I was feeling really good. I stopped the Happy pills on Day 30 because the pain was bearable (on a plus side I have a 10 day supply if I ever hurt myself in the future!). So since I'm right handed I have been able to drive since I stopped the vikes-cause I didn't want a DUI (check out your pupils next time Ur on Vicodins-easy to notice the pin point pupils and cops are trained to look so be careful). So I drove to the Doc and walked in, asshole made me wait an hour and finally got in and xray'd.

Great news is there's healing and my fracture blisters have healed so I'm on the right track. I asked him if it would be possible for me to be without sling in 20 days and he said "maybe". Well maybe your dumb dumb and not very helpful. If I wanted maybe's I’d ask my garbage man the same thing and probably get the same answer (I'm sure he knows how to access Google on his smart phone). Anyways, but the good news is I can take a break from my sling and stretch out my elbow. I am just hoping to be able to be without sling for my goal of Feb 19, 2014 (60 days after break). I don't need to lift anything I just want my arm to be beside my body and move my arm without using my right arm-is that so much to ask.  When I got home I took my sling off and jumped on my computer and using both hands now.  My own physical therapy begins today.  I am noticing that my shoulders, biceps, triceps, forearm and muscles in my hand are completely atrophied.  Typing is difficult and im noticing my fingers spasming and pressing the wrong keys every now and then but I knew that would happen but it’s just weird to actually see it in play.

Days 20-33

I am still in the brace and sling.  The pain is still there but bearable.  I also wanted to see what all the big deal with twitter, instagram was so I started those just to make the day fly.  Still getting used to twitter, its interesting because while im watching all this Olympic coverage they are tweeting left and right.  I think I’ve figured out the hashtag business and think its fun. I’m feeling younger and happier.  The times are improving.   It’s easier to shower, you can begin to taper yourself off the vicodins.  I even had some actual fun.  I got to play my best friend in air hockey, basketball and skeeball and beat him with one arm over his two in all our events! But now I think my unbroken arms forearm muscle pulled which makes it difficult to text, hold anything.  Annoying :( #cantcatchabreak.

My fracture blisters have all healed over the past 2 weeks.  I've been showering more and cleaning and replacing the betadyne bandages but you need another person to help you do everything.  I can't wait to take care of myself again.

Day 17

So the X-ray really didn't show much. The first x-ray when I am in my sling looks good.  The break is shown and looks like everything is in place but the Scary issue is in the Second x-ray.  I had to hold my arm in a position like I was pointing my forearm toward the camera with my back/tricep against the way it shows that the bone is healing at an angle of 21 degrees but because I'm a big guy it shouldn't look so deformed.  I am never going to be the same.

After the x-rays I told my doctor if they can change my Arm sleeve that goes beneath my brace because It smells really bad and may have gotten wet and moldy because of the two showers I’ve had.  He obliged and sent in 2 awesome nurses.  I popped a pill and they started to remove the brace and then as they were taking the sleeve off they noticed the smell.  Then they noticed that my skin was peeling off with the sleeve, a new low has been reached in my life.  They then had to cut off the remaining sleeve and I was told that before they do anything they have to get the doctor to check it out.

So House MD comes in and tells me “Oh you got fracture blisters, we’ll put some betadyne on it and it’ll fix it up” like its not a big deal.  Geez Louise man.  So your telling me I was smelling my own rotting necrotic tissue!?! He nods and the nurses get to cleaning the wound and rubbing off the sloughed skin.  He then put 5-4x4 patches of Betadyne all over my left arm, wrapped it with some gauze and then put a new sleeve on.  He says ill have to continue to do this for 2 weeks and it should be back to the disabled norm that I have been accustomed.  Thanks for telling me ahead of time that this could possibly happen you son of a biznatch.  The good news is I don’t smell bad anymore the bad news is I have to change my bandages every few days.

Day 15

The swelling and bruising have gone away and now I'm getting new types of pain on my elbow and hand. Feels like cramping and pins so most like I'm having some nerve pain. It's still bearable so I'm not too worried yet. Have my 3rd X-ray to be done in 2 days to see how the healing is going.  Nothing more to report.
